ARTIST STATEMENT
Ana Sluga*s painting production from the last couple of years have a female protagonist. This is a Modern woman of the Western world who has experienced the transitions of all kind-political, personal, cultural, technological… The radical changes which became every day reality, in a relatively short time affected her entire generation. The femail figure that Ana Sluga is painting is placed either in bizarre, contradictory, or again humorous and illogical situations. She is constantly asking questions to herself and as well to others, expresses her dilemmas, fears, beliefs and critics.
The main actress is very sincere, naive and at the same time direct, sharp and quite focused. The pictures are full of analog objects from the 80* of the last century, which today appear almost completely useless or they seem archaic and nistalgic. The so-called story that she is telling is also a latent display of her own emotions and experiences.
Ana Sluga was born in Ljubljana in 1981 to Slovenian mother and German father. She graduated from painting on the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts (ALUO) and continued her Masters studies at the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design and Estonian Academy of Arts (Esti Kunstiakadeemia) in Tallinn, Estonia. In 2015 the University of Ljubljana awarded her for her outstanding artistic works. She has been working as an independent artist ever since 2007. Her works have been presented at individual and selected exhibitions internationally. Her works take place in Public (Albertina-Vienna, Modern Gallery-Ljubljana) and Privat art collections around the Europe.
